Poles asunder

SR at his best (again): There is perhaps a causal link between our capacity for selfless behaviour and our ability to exercise freedom and personal choice.

My response: Selflessness was supposedly the opposite of personal choice,- the sacrifice of personal choice. It seems ironical to mean that the more freedom of choice we have, the more we choose to be selfless. If I have misunderstood you correctly, America is the motherland of freedom; is it of selflessness? Maybe you could elaborate some more!

  1. There a famous vedantic saying- If you think you are bound, you are bound, if you think you are free, you are free, it is thinking that makes it so

Swamy says, we are divine but our perception of this reality is distorted due to our association with our Body. Association with our Body creates doubts on our inherent reality which is divinity, which is why the Sanskrit word for Doubt is " Sandeha" San beans Association and Deha means Body. The only way to remove sandeha is by doing Seva- Selfless service

Lack of Body consciusness increases our ability to expand our sphere of influence.

One thing to remember is talent exemplifies and aggravates body consciousness- be it talent for art or talent in sport or speaking writing etc. That is why Bhajan singers have the greatest amount of ego!!

Hence my conclusion Seva perhaps has a causal link and enhances freedom and personal choice

  2. SR/PV: Firstly, im super glad and thrilled (and relieved) about the discovery...pheew!! On second thoughts, i was enjoying the suspense and think i could've done with it for a tad bit more :)

Secondly, just wanted to say that i am thoroughly enjoying both, PV's blogs as well as responses by SR which lead to further questioning and soul searching.

    Good going guys!

  3. Since there is competitition for my name as as anonymous I have chosen a name SABN. Can you guess the full form of SABN- Swamy wants everyone in his fold to get a PHD (in Divine Love and Divine Perfection) in his university and then go out and take a deep plunge in the world by becoming a SABN!!

  4. Well, hey, I am kinda relieved the suspense is over. I was petrified when even the names of our cars were mentioned! Began to wonder whether this Anonymous even had my waist-line figured out!

But, after one anonymous, there is another one, although this anonymous has got a name. SABN is a very helpful name, though!
