Freshly brewed controversy

SR speaketh: One thing to remember is talent exemplifies and aggravates body consciousness- be it talent for art or talent in sport or speaking writing etc. That is why Bhajan singers have the greatest amount of ego!!

Thankfully, this controversy is not propagated from my end! No comments from my side, save that in my knowledge, no Centre in the history of Our organization has split on account of any Wing other than the one you just mentioned.

Counter-comments, anyone?

  1. Bhajan creates controversy because very interesting and complicated interplay of ego and karma

Ego requires fairness and equity. And every individual Ego has different definition of fairness and equity. But Karma surprisingly has an upper hand on even ego.

Eg In one centre two sisters were occupying the first two seats of first row of bhajan for 14 years. To quash the ego, a new Bhajan convener made them sit in the second row for one Bhajan- Just one Bhajan. A big fight ensued, people shouted in public during bhajan session, devotees left and bhajan convener was questioned. Bhajan convener lobbied with certain conveners but the two sister's loby was more powerful and the convener was sacked

To an independent observer, gross injustice was done to the new Bhajan convener but to the Centre's Head, an incident happened which should have never happend in a Bhajan Centre and the new convener was responsible for it.

How do you differentiate between EGo, self respect, self esteem and self confidence. What is the dividing line between say ego and self respect? How could the Bhajan convener have avoided the events that ultimately transpired? Was it his karma to undego the calumny of being sacked as a convener and that too a few days after appointment after decades of aspiring for it!

We will watch this in the next Serial- Same Day/Same time!!

I disagree with the last phrase of the statement.

If he was matured enough, he would never have considered it calumny in the first place. Seconds, if was wise enough, he would not have aspired ofr it for decades.

  3. Praveen Sir, the issue is controversial and perhaps complex

We are looking for Right and Wrong
at an individual level but we need to look at issues at an higher level perhaps organisational level.

Devotees come to listen to good Bhajans- They should not ideally care for who sings and who is seated where so long as the session itself is organised well and is conducted in an uninteruppted fashion

It is the convener's responsibility to ensure that this organisation is done well resolving and addressing individual issues and differences, if any, much prior to the issue potentiaaly surfacing at any Bhajan Session.

Swamy has said that conveners and the members of the organisation can achieve its objects "through the sense of unity, the willingness
to sacrifice, and the softness of compassion" .

Unity is achieved by sacrifice and compassion- invariably those who sacrifice are the ones exercising compassion on those who do not sacrifice. In this case either the two sisters would have had to sacrifice (ideal) or the rest of the Bhajan team members have to have compassion on the ego and ignorance of the two sisters. It is the job of the convener to arrange for this to have happened prior to taking an event

Conveners and members are expected to Face disagreements
honestly, thoughtfully, lovingly, and with the understanding that different viewpoints can
    have equal validity.

The key point in Sai Organisation is that the process of solving a disagreement is often more important than the actual solution. Being harmonious about what we do is just as important (or perhaps more important) as doing it. Whereever things become difficult it is expected that the convener and members surrender their difficulties to God and try to communicate clearly and lovingly to all.

Obviously this may not have been done by the convener, one would have to assume, and therefore the final outcome. Or may be the convener did all this but because of certain karmic effect, had to face a different consequence

    Agree/Disagree/Any different Viewpoints?

  4. One Bhajan Singer recently could not sleep because of the treatment received from Bhajan Wing.

Praveen Sir, Let us organise a prayer session for the person supposedly suffering from "severe talent and spiritual atrophy".

Surely this is a much much more serious problem and deseves a greater prayer than anything we can do for the 230000 deceased in Haiti; 93,000 homes and business without power in Oklahoma, 2000 sufferring from Cholera in Papua New guinea, the eight deceased in Pune Bomb blast, 20 deceased in drone attacks last week in Pakistan, the 1.7 million livestock deceased in Mongolia, 20 dead in Train Crash in belgium.......
