The Year 2010 has ended and another has begun. And the last Thought For The Day I received for 2010 has to be the most profound, and, as always, most apposite. The Avatar is always apposite.

Never fear any test. Be ready to sacrifice even your life for the sake of God. Only then will God protect you. There are no defects in God. All His words and deeds are perfect. What you see is the reflection, reaction and resound of your feelings. They are psychological in nature. God always grants us welfare alone. Understand and experience this Truth."

ReplyDeleteThe word "purpose" in "Hope the New Year ushers in .." wish struck a chord with me. Most of us wish Happiness, Prosperity, Health and the likes to others. But Hardly anyone wishes the year ahead to be purposeful. It is a wish that can lead one to introspect
Do we lead a life of purpose? Do we know where our life is heading to? We may be climbing the ladder of success in any sphere of life, even spiritual, very quickly but how are we to know it is not leaning against the wrong wall?
Only those can have a vision for tomorrow, will find great purpose and strength in their today. 2011 will be purposeful if there is clarity in the vision of the years beyond. Otherwise, it is just another year taking us on a grand road trip to elsewhere!
Having a vision is easy for those habituated to live for a cause greater than themselves But as Swamy says, man does not see things because he is too stuck to the costume he is wearing in this life!

ReplyDeleteI have been fortunate enough to be able to contribute in a small (weekly) way to Dr. Sasikala's phenomenal service effort. This is purely in kind and is an entirely personal effort, without affiliation of any unintentional nature.
And I wanted to do it on Jan 1 this week, as this would hopefully set the trend for me for the rest of the year.
And when I reached her clinic with the sacks of rice, I noticed that they didn't even have power, while there was a raucous party just two floors below. Yet, there were people there in the clinic, discussing over a candle light, and working hard,- for others.
This is true purpose.
For sure there can be only one Gandhi. But there can be many Gandhians.

ReplyDeleteThe candlelight discussion you mentioned reminded me of Sunder Iyers (Swamy's PA) revelation of Swamy performing his daily chores-brushing, bathing, dressing etc in the early hours of the morning with a torch light. He did so lest the knowledge of His being awake might disturb the sleep of His devotees eagerly awaiting a glimpse of his silhouette, hours before the scheduled morning darshan or even the Suprabhatam.
The Lord of the Universe who could summon at any instant as His bastion and citadel, the celestial luminosity of trillions of glitzy stellar entities commenced His day with an inconspicuous yet purposeful beam of torchlight!
